This Violin Must Die

This Violin Must Die is a lecture performance consisting of the sounds of a violin being destroyed in front of an audience, along with a film of Chinese violin factories made by Libby Glanville of the Sydney String Centre. I developed this as part of a research project called “workawork” at the Royal Academy of Art in Stockholm. My good friend Fredric Olofsson developed a Supercollider program that treats these resulting sounds and allows the violinist to play them without using any violin technique. There is a lot going on here; I jabber on about capitalism and the fable of the Grasshopper and the Ant for a while, and then the violin takes over.
